I too have had recurrent cancer. I have been battling it for 2 years now. I am going in for my 3rd surgery sometime next month.
I know what you mean. Some days it feels like you want to just give up and not fight anymore. That you don't want to keep hurting, keep going through surgery, keep going through treatments, etc. I understand.
I will tell you what I do that helps me.
Read "tuesday's with Morie" It is a short book and well worth the read. In this book the man is dying of a terribly painful disease. When asked how he keeps from giving up or living in dispair and depression, he says "I give myself 10 minutes a day to feel sorry for myself." He sets a timer and then for 10 minutes a day he cries or yells at God, or feels miserable and then when that timer goes off, he stops. He knows he can feel sorry for himself the next morning, so he just stores up those feelings, or writes them down and saves them for tomorrow. This helps him get through the day. When I feel really bad, I do this too. It acnowleges your pain, but it doesn't let you wallow in it.
The second thing I would say is to make a cd or a playlist on your mp3 player of inspirational songs - whatever songs make you feel strong. Whether it's Emenem's "till the roof comes off" or Rascal Flats "And then you Stand" or Sara McLaughlin's "In the Arms of an Angel" - find songs that insipre you to keep going and take it with you to appointments, to your treatments, to work, on walks, etc. If you feel down, listen to it, let yourself escape.
I would also try to get into a yoga class or learn some meditation - this helps me a lot when I'm really down.

The last thing I say is this: Find the thing you want to live for, and live for it. I have a 2 year old who has been there through all of this. When my pain is bad or my depression creeps up on me, I look at or picture his smile - I hold him, I kiss him, etc. It helps me. If your reason is to go to school, or to see your grandma, or to climb mount Everest, whatever, just find it and keep it in your heart.

I have decided that no matter what happens in life, it happens for a reason. The universe or God or whatever you believe in really has a plan, and you may not see it now or for 10 years, but it is there.

Good luck.
Health Question & Answer

I am a cancer survivor so i know the frustration. All i can say is you are alive and surviving every day is a challenge and frustrating when you keep getting bad news, but you are still here and there is nothing more important than that. Keep going the fact that you are here means you are strong and a fighter. Just think any fight isn't one round to be a winner some times you don't get a knockout first round you have to go the full distance. I will hold good thoughts for you and hope you keep going until you win the fight.Health Question & Answer

The fear of death as a consequence of cancer is universal. This fear, along with a dread of disability can wreak havoc in a woman
