Ear piercing infection or normal irritation?!

Question: Ear piercing infection or normal irritation.?
I got my ears pierced a few days ago with 14k gold earrings, and on the second day it started to swell, become VERY itchy, a bit crusty on the skin, and really warm on my earlobes, and the skin that touches the back of my earrings are itchy and bumpy. I read that irritations are normal for some piercings, but that's all I know.

I'm not allergic to 14k gold, so I don't know what's going on. I followed the steps that my piercer told me to do.

Is it an infection or irritation.? (Questions are welcome for more understanding)Health Question & Answer

These are very normal signs for a new piercing. The itching is a sign it is healing. Wash your hand first then. make sure you are cleaning it 2 times a day with either the special cleaner or you can use a variety of things such as salt water (only as salty as your tears). You might also try bacitration. It is an over the counter antibiotic that helps. Rotate the earrings when cleaning so they don't get stuck.

NEVER
Touch a piercing with dirty hands
Let anyone else touch your piercing with dirty hands

I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol it dries out the piercing and prolongs the healing process.

Hope that helps! I bet they are beautifulHealth Question & Answer

It's not unusual to have itching, crusting and redness and warmth for a few days. Be sure and use the cleaning solution you were given and do it frequently, or you can use rubbing alcohol. When I got my ears pierced years ago, they didn't have cleaning solution, you used rubbing alcohol. It stings, but it works. You might give that a try. They do tell you not to remove the earrings for 6 weeks, so that would indicate it takes quite a while for them to heal.Health Question & Answer

Do you use the ear lobe cleaner they give you.? Because if you dont clean it it will get infected FOR SURE. i got three peircings on my ear and had to let them all close up because i didnt clean them with the special medicine. Its normal for it to be a little soar and a little crusty, but not itchy. and if its infecting your other skin thats not peirced its probably the gold. maybe its not good quality.? but i suggest you let them close. and next time you peirce them use real metal. Hope i helped! :]Health Question & Answer
