Why was my skin bright red after I was in a tanning bed?!

Question: Why was my skin bright red after I was in a tanning bed.?
I was in the bed for fifteen minutes and when I got out, the parts of my skin that were touching the bed were bright red! So like my shoulder blades, and butt and calves etc. I was so scared that I would have an awful, blistering sunburn.
However, about an hour later it was gone!
Anyone know what this was.? Its weird cuz it was only the skin touching the bed...Health Question & Answer

I was going to say a sun burn but since it has gone away I have another theory. The girls who work at the tanning booth did not properly sanitize the bed and the person who used it before you was wearing a tingling sensation tanning cream that turns their skin bright red and maximizes their tan.. Some people like the tingly red skinned sensation they get from these certain creams but it is usually too intense for the first time tanners or people who don't use those creams often. This has happened to me a few times and it grosses me out that the bed it not properly sanitized. They also have this sign posted in the room. "please let us know if you are using a tingly cream so we can properly sanitize the bed" and I'm thinking well it sure would be nice if you ALWAYS properly sanitized the bed lololol Health Question & Answer

If your skin sits against a surface it turns red. try leaving your hand on your stomach for fifteen minutes. The same thing will happen. I think it has something to do with heating up or not venting or sweating, or maybe some mix of those.
But don't worry about it. that usually happens, you just don't notice cause your clothes block it.Health Question & Answer

it was just the heat of the bed on the skin directly.

brings blood to the surface.

it's probably just from the pressure from lying down on them. like .. have you ever gotten a mark from a tight bracelet/watch/band or from pinching your skin.? that kinda thing.Health Question & Answer
