Hair problem, My hair gets white brittle lines behind both ears.?!

Question: Hair problem, My hair gets white brittle lines behind both ears..?
Ok, I have two spots of hair above and slightly behind my left and right ears about 1 inch around that gets white lines grown into the hairs. I have never had any real problems with it other then the fact that people can see it when they are up close to me.

I have had this 2-3 years now, it has never gone away or gotten worse. When I get my hair cut the lines go away until they grow back in (2-4 weeks).

The hair closest to my scalp is normal and then the last few cm of hair have thin white lines spaced apart about like this >> || ||| | (they might be dots but hair is so thin it looks like lines to me)

When you pull on the ends of the hair with the white lines the hair always breaks on the lines and in the two patches of hair the hair feels more like straw or a rougher fell to it.

I use head and shoulders shampoo and conditioner, have short hair, and always dry my hair with a towel.

If anyone can tell me anything about this it would be great

Answers:
If you wear glasses, maybe they're wearing on your hair. The cuticle is breaking, that much is certain. Next time you get it cut, bring this to the attention of your stylist. He or she can probably look at it and tell you what is happening.
In the meantime, get a shampoo and conditioner formulated for dry, brittle hair and see if that helps. Use a spray on/leave in conditioner after you shampoo and condition. Thermasilk and VO5 both make good ones. Concentrate on those areas. Don't rub your hair with a towel, just blot. Comb gently, and don't fuss with it. The less you do, the better.
Take a good multivitamin/mineral supplement if you don't already, and drink plenty of water. Your health often shows up in your hair, you could be getting a shortage of a necessary nutrient. If none of these tips help in a month or so, see your doctor. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
