Why does it cost less for someone to have dialysis at home rather than in a hospital?!
Question: Why does it cost less for someone to have dialysis at home rather than in a hospital.?
Answers:
I would have to agree with Angel R. ....having home dialysis is freeing up a bed for someone else in the hospital...not only that but there is only 1 nurse working with you opposed to several.....for example...one to do bloodwork, one to check vitals, one to get you blanket, one to get ice chips, one to check weight, etc etc...Health Question & Answer
Because once it is set up the patient and a relative or carer can deal with it.
In hospital a bed is in use, staff are employed, food is provided, electricity is used, cleaning has to be done by employed staff, laundry costs for bedding once used. Work that out!Health Question & Answer

The hospital don't have to pay the electrical running costs, staff costs etc if you're having it at home. I'd definitely prefer the home option if I ever had to have it. Health Question & Answer
Mostly it has to do with a lack of bed space in the hospital being used.Health Question & Answer
