well, as a matter of technicality, you do not get a staph infection from going to the gym. You do get staph colonization -- meaning the germ is very well transferred from a carrier to the gym equipment, and then to the next user.
If you use good hygeine - shower immediately after your workout with an antimicrobial soap (Safeguard or Dial) you will eradicate or at least control the number of staph on your body so that you do not get true infections.
