If you have been coughing a lot, you may have strained the connective tissue between your ribs. (I have done this more than once in asthmatic coughing fits). You may also have a chest infection (we asthmatics are prone to them) and you are feeling the constriction in your airways.

Go to your doctor. You could also have a spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung).Health Question & Answer
