I have blotchy red skin, but not all the time. ?!

Question: I have blotchy red skin, but not all the time. .?
It may be rosacea, but I doubt it. I dont have acne, but it does get a little greasy when red. I'm a white male and sometimes it looks like I've been skiing and got mild sunburn whilst wearing sunglasses. Its especially bad when it comes out on cold days. What sort of things can I do to fix this.?

I have some fairly visible pores if you look up close, but generally its ok. I use a face scrub and mild moisturizer. I also drink at least 8 pints of beer a week.

Does anyone have any ideas to help. I'd like a nice clear complection.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Can you tell us why you doubt that what you have is rosacea.? Is it because of the term "acne rosacea" and the fact that your skin isn't oily.?

I ask because there is still not a general consensus among professionals as to whether or not "acne rosacea" is a misnomer. In other words, rosacea may not even be acne at all. And even if rosacea *is* acne, you don't need to have oily skin in order to have acne. Rosacea is a flushed pink to bright red rash that is most prominent in your t-zone area.

To help clear up your skin, I'd recommend drinking a lot more water (not tap water), and far less beer. I'd also recommend seeing a doctor about the rash. If it's not acne, and not rosacea (per se), it could be an indicator of systemic lupus erythematosus. If you do have lupus, the sooner you find out and begin treatment, the better. Lupus is an auto-immune disease, and it can have serious consequences.

There probably are a number of things that can cause what you're describing, but I'd hope for the best and have it checked out in the meantime.

I wish you all the best!
