The people they tested in the 70's were not told they were being tested. The medical industry felt that if the patient was aware they were being administered the drug, it would hinder the reaction to the drug and the study. the patients were frequently tested and this occurrence normally happens when people have taken very large quantities and/or frequently. It is said that people go mad BUT the cases that they base these studies from were UNAWARE that they were being tested, therefore, it is completely conceivable that they would go mad. you end up in the looney bin. It has happened. they used to do electric shock treatment, don't know what they do nowadays ( back in the 1970's they did this, hopefully have a more humane and less invasive treatment). Health Question & Answer
