Question: Is it ok for a 50'ish Type II Diabeteic to get a tattoo.?
Always wanted one, and I am not getting any younger. I take Metforin and Januvia to control my sugar. Never have had any problems with things healing. Been diagnosed for 8 years. What do you think.?Health Question & Answer

I got my tattoo when I was 50. I am also a diabetic. Mine is a little unorthodoxed for some women, but I did not want a "girlie" tat. Since my husband and I both ride motorcycles, I wanted something a little more hard core, so I chose a skull that looks like it is breaking through my skin. It is on the calf of my leg. As long as you have your diabetes under good control and take care of the tattoo while it is healing, there is no reason you can't have a tattoo.
You can see the eyebrows raise when I go pick up my granddaughter at day care when I have shorts on.Health Question & Answer

Not worth the risk. You're opening yourself up for infection, especially if you get it in the lower extremities. Is your diabetes well controlled.? Being that your on 2 different diabetic meds you can't be that well controlled. Getting a tatoo would be the perfect opportunity to start having problems healing, don't invite any added complications. That would be such a shame to add more health problems that you would have to live with because of something that could have been avoided. Health Question & Answer

as long as your sugars are in good control it should be no problem. just run it by your doc for a second opinion and make sure the tattooist knows as well. another thing to keep in mind is that healing times are generally longer than the average person and risk of infection is higher. but in saying that i'm a type 1 with 5 tattoos and never a problem with any of them!

so best of luck, not sure if you guys(type 2s)go hypo like us.?! but always make sure you've eaten properly before the session and have some fast acting carbs with you during it!

enjoy!!!Health Question & Answer

Why Tattoo.? God lend you your body. He the almighty didn't gave it to you. You should return it back in good conditions. He will thank you for that and gratified you with something. Why are you going to ruin it with a tattoo.?Health Question & Answer

Personally I don't think you should get one. Like the other member said ( Ask your doctor ). What if getting a tattoo now, would be an unfortunate circumstance for you. Best just leave it alone my friend.Health Question & Answer

Ask your doctor becasue diabetics can have trouble healing! As long as your diabetes is under control you should be fine but I would still ask your doctor to be sure! Good luck!Health Question & Answer
