What is vagal stimulation on a heart rate monitor?!

Question: What is vagal stimulation on a heart rate monitor.?
Answers:
Vagal stimulation results in the vagus nerve slowing down heart rate. The monitor isn't what stimulates it or at least I've never seen a monitor stimulate the vagus nerve. Usually the doctor or paramedic tells the patent to "bear down like they are going to have a bowel movement" only they don't have bowel movement or will have them blow through a straw for a couple of seconds. Both of these stimulate the vagus nerve and can lower the heart rate without the need for medications. A vagal escape is when the heart starts to beat again after vagal stimulation of any kind has caused it(the heart) to stop regaurdless of if the vagal stimulation has stopped. Basically the vagal escape is your hearts back up in the event the vagus nerve is over stimulated.Health Question & Answer
