Chemotherapy for a brain tumor?!

Question: Chemotherapy for a brain tumor.?
Glioblastoma to be specific. I had a couple of questions.:

How soon after surgery will chemotherapy and radiation begin.?
Where is the chemo administered.? At home or in the hospital.?
Are there any plans and regiments that are more likely to be used.?

Please be as detailed as you can be, and thanks in advance. Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Glioblastoma or glioma is a type of primary central nervous system (CNS) tumor that arises from glial cells. The most common site of involvement of gliomas is the brain, but they can also affect the spinal cord or any other part of the CNS, such as the optic nerves.

Treatment for a brain tumor depends on the type, size and location of the tumor, as well as your overall health and your preferences. Your doctor can tailor treatment to fit your particular situation.

Mostly, the surgery to remove the tumor will be done first and after recovery of the patient Chemotherapy and radiation therapy will be taken up. also mostly the chemotherapy will be given through IV fluids in hands where viens are easily available and it will be given in hospital only.

Another type of chemotherapy can be placed during surgery. When removing all or part of the brain tumor, your surgeon may place one or more disk-shaped wafers in the void left by the tumor. These wafers slowly release a chemotherapy drug over the next several days.

Between Surgery and each cycles of Chemotherapy and radiation fractions a minimum of 3 weeks rest will be given to the patient to get
recouped and if the Red blood cells level is satisfactory. During these therapies the RBC count will fall due to destruction and burning of good cells too. The number of cycles of chemotherapy and the medicine will be decided by your oncologist depending on the condition, stage of disease and various other factors of the patient.

I am unable to give more details on the treatment here as unless full details are known it is very difficult. You can ask your Oncologist for any detail in particular and I hope he will be glad to explain you. Best of luck for the patient.-Health Question & Answer

My father was diagnosed with brain cancer when I was very young. Shortly after he had surgery, he went under chemotherapy. I remember him staying in the hospital during chemotherapy but his condition only worsened so the doctor permitted him to live with my mom and I in our house for the last couple of months he was alive. His condition was very serious and the tumor had spread a lot.

If it is either you or a close loved one of yours who has to go through chemo for a brain tumor, all I can do is pray for you that God will watch over you and your family. A tumor in the brain is something that is very serious and prayer and comfort from both friends and family is what will keep you strong during this time. Stay strong, I wish you the best.Health Question & Answer

Sorry I don't have an answer, I just want to wish you well and hope that they can cure you (or if it isn't you, whoever has this).Health Question & Answer
