Can Anyone Explain This... Respiratory Problem I Had That I No Longer Have? Details Inside?!

Question: Can Anyone Explain This... Respiratory Problem I Had That I No Longer Have.? Details Inside.?
Well to make a long story short... or should I say, shorter, I had a breathing problem about a week ago when it first popped up.

I'm 19 years old, and on Saturday night (one week ago), I went home from a car show/racing and when I arrived, I felt pretty bad. My breathing felt restricted double than what it normally was, I could not take a deep breathe and if I could, I felt a pain in my chest. Well, that lasted three days and then I posted a question on here asking people with experience and they said I have a clear case of Asthma. This has never happened to me before and I felt fine until that night. So anyway, went to the Doctor, and they said the following quoting exactly: "Your lungs are great, your heart is perfect and your extremely healthy! No Asthma, no disease or anything... and then asking me questions"

That is good to hear because I am studying to be a Firefighter and I just have no idea what that popped up. I feel great now, I can exercise for a long time, run a couple miles easily and do all that. And I felt better Wednesday morning when I woke up and it started Saturday night.

What do you think caused this.? Allergies, the smoke that may have been in the air from the car show (exhaust smoke, people smoking, tires burning etc...) I have NEVER smoked in my life and never plan on it.

But on Saturday night, I felt horrible. Pretty bad breathing, hard to take a deep breathe and then three days later, went back to normal and I feel great.

And I did not take any medications, or anything during that time. Let it fix itself to say the least. And it did. Well thanks for the answers. Just curious on what happened and to be sure I can protect it from happening again.

What you seem to discuss here is actually a relatively common problem. It is also usually transient. It is TYPICALLY an intercostal spasm, which is simply a spasm of the muscles in between your ribs. Sometimes, if they cramp up or spasm, when you attempt to take a deep breath, it feels like someone is knifing you. It's awful. Sometimes, if you can gain your composure and slowly breathe in (as though through a straw), that may be enough to cajole the muscles out of spasm.

It has absolutely nothing to do with asthma, which is a spasmodic contraction of the muscles surrounding the bronchial tree.Health Question & Answer

It still sounds like asthma to me. I have asthma and this could easily happen to me if I had been there with all the exhaust.

And yes, asthma can go away by itself. BUT if you have a really bad attack, you will want an inhaler just in case. I mean without an inhaler, some asthma attacks can last all night. Then you get no sleep that night.

Go to an allergist they are very familiar with asthma. Like I said, I have asthma but I don't cough or wheeze, I just can breath good.
Sometimes the doctor can't hear anything if you're not having asthma at the time you go to the doctor.

You need to have an inhaler on hand. Why suffer. Health Question & Answer
