I have symptoms of type one. Would it be good to get a glucose meter to check every so often.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
If you feel unwell, you should go to your doctor. It's not going to do you any good knowing your blood sugar readings if you don't have any way of treating yourself.

Although it sounds like you may have some of the symptoms of type 1 diabetes mellitus, these could be caused by a different illness. If your blood sugar is ok and you dismiss your symptoms without seeing a doctor, you could still have a different illness undiagnosed.

Incidentally, it's not uncommon for people to faint for no particular reason. If I were you, I'd be more concerned about the symptoms you list in the additional details.Health Question & Answer

Not sure if I understand this right - so you haven't been diagnosed with diabetes but feel like you have the symptoms.? What symptoms do you have.?

If you have undiagnosed type 1 diabetes, it is more likely that you would have problems related to HIGH blood sugar levels rather than low - this is because in type 1 diabetes your pancreas isn't making the insulin needed to take the sugar from the food you eat into your cells.

Certainly a blood sugar reading of 5.8 is definitely in the normal range. It is possible to get a falsely high reading if you had sweet stuff on the finger that you did the blood test from.

If you were dizzy/passed out you should get checked out by your doctor. Most common cause is a simple faint, but there are other important causes of dizziness that the doctor can check for.
Health Question & Answer

Diabetes symptoms are not limited to type 1 or type 2.

Generally type 1 is diagnosed in the ER with the patient in a coma! and even if the reading was taken with no handwashing or alcohol pad usage, that is a normal reading.

5.0 is absolute perfect! It is 100 to you USA cousins!

Yes, you should be having semi annual blood work done at your doctor's office if there is diabetes in you family history, no matter how close or how distant it may be.

Since you are stating number in mmol's you are not in USA. You may not be able to purchase a meter without doctor's consent. I know in Britain you cannot do so. And they have a choice of only one meter.Health Question & Answer

If you have type 1 diabetes, you need insulin injection regularly. Please conduct HbA1c test also. 5.8 mmol/L is normal.Health Question & Answer

why not.?..........You have stated you are experiencing symtoms, therefor why not.?......meters are cheap. Directly after standing and walking.?.........I would check my blood pressure as well.Health Question & Answer
