Same happened to me about a year ago, terribly bad. I could barely sit or do anything. I never found out what it was, but after a few days, it did produce pus, though before, there was no sign of it, and then it was gone. I've had it before with very mild symptoms, and no pus. Possibilities include:
1) Just an infected pimple that will resolve in a few days
2) A pilonidal cyst. These usually need treatment
3) A fistula in ano; a situation where there is a small tract from your anus to the abscess site. In my experience these are usually on the side of the buttocks (cheeks) rather in the natal (or gluteal) cleft. That's a nicer way of saying butt crack.
Try sitting in very warm water for 10 - 15 minutes several times a day. If no improvement, definitely see your doctor, sooner if you have a fever.Health Question & Answer

The best advice I can give is go to the doctor. Explain your symptoms and he will be able to figure out what it is. If it is an infection of some sort it will be taken care of and you will have the peace of mind knowing what it is for the next time.
