Health Question & Answer

Answers:
endoscopy's aren't painful at all! i got one done last summer due to digestions problems. what they're doing is basically putting a long, thin, flexible tube with a tiny video camera and light on the end down your esophagus. they do this to examine the inside lining of the upper digestive system. before getting the procedure, you should not eat or drink withing 8 to 10 hours of the procedure. on the day of the procedure, the doctor will most likely give you a sedative to get you drowsy and relaxed, but you'll stay awake. for me, actually, they gave me general anesthesia, so that i was asleep during the whole thing. you'll have to get an IV, before starting the procedure, though. getting an IV is just like getting a vaccine shot. it's just a slight pinch. if you're awake during the procedure, you'll feel no pain whatsoever. some doctors will probably spray your throat with a anesthetic to make sure you wont feel the tube going in. if you're asleep for the procedure, you'll wake up probably an hour or so after the anesthesia wears down. you might feel some discomfort in your throat, but it wont hurt too much. trust me.

your doctor will probably be able to give you more information, so ask him/her anything you want. but until then, this site might help you: .?parm1=859." rel="nofollow">http://www.gastro.org/wmspage.cfm.?parm1=...

good luck! and dont worry! Health Question & Answer

It shouldn't really be painful, but it might be uncomfortable. They might even spray your throat or something so you don't really feel it as much.Health Question & Answer
