I think there is something wrong with my heart?!?!

Question: I think there is something wrong with my heart.?!.?
Every now and then, especially when I lay down my heart beats REALLY hard and extremely erratically to the point where I can see it moving in my chest when I hold my breath. I listened to it with a stethoscope and it does three really fast thuds like dududu instead of the normal beat then it stops entirely for about a half second then continues beating different every other time. I just finished my period, do other women experience this.? What about dehydration/caffeine.? Is it hormone related.? Stress.? I'm a little scared about and I plan to see a doctor, if it helps I'm only fourteen. My mother is worried about it too. also could it be heart palpitations.? I think it might be a valve but I don't know very much about cardio health so please help me! I am sometimes short of breath, but rarely. My heart beats like this when I am sitting too. I still do a lot of athletic stuff and I don't seem to have an energy problem. Any help would be nice. Thank you:)Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It could be a few things. You could be anemic (low blood count) which can cause heart irregularities and/or PVC's (preventricular contractions) which many people think feel like palpitations.
Or you could have something called SVT, or supra ventricular tachycardia. With this, your heart rate can go up to 150-180 beats per minute. The can be caused by different things in the heart. If you have SVT or any other heart dysrhythmia, you need to be seen by a cardiologist (heart doctor) to find the cause and get treatment. It doesn't mean you are having a heart attack.
In general, SVT isn't life threatening, but you need to be evaluated by a doctor to find out the root of the problem.Health Question & Answer

Your period has nothing to do with it and yes, caffeine will cause your heart to beat erratically if you have a lot of it. Stress can also cause it but it sounds like a Palpitation or PVC to me. I have them, everyone does but not everyone feels them. I think the best thing is to see your Dr and if he thinks it is necessary he will send you to a cardiologist. Lay off the caffeine and see if that helps.Health Question & Answer
