Risk of HIV from broken glass?!
Question: Risk of HIV from broken glass.?
The other month I was..drunk, and depressed and suicidal (not suicidal now, so don't tell me to seek help or whatever), and coming back from a club I found some broken glass on the street, and I cut myself several times with it.
I'm a hypochondriac so forgive me if this question is a bit insensitive or uninformed, and i've heard the stories of people being infected with glass needles, but does it apply to broken glass bottles as well.? I also heard HIV dies in contact with the air, though that seems to be disputed.
Thanks.Health Question & Answer

You are not at risk of getting HIV, because even if there would have been infected blood on the glass, HIV dies within minutes once it is exposed to air. However, you may be at risk of being infected with other germs, so I would suggest that you see a doctor and get a tetanus shot if you have not had one recently.Health Question & Answer
No, you cannot get HIV/AIDS that way.
You can get a staph infection or tetanus or any other infection from bacteria that might have been on the glass that has now been introduced into your body. So... if you haven't had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years, then go get one... get one anyway if you haven't had one in the last 10 years because it's time.
And, just make sure your wound is healing properly, if you start to see that it is infected or that you have a fever, go see a doctor. Health Question & Answer
