Do you vomit while having the flu?!

Question: Do you vomit while having the flu.?
im talking about influenza NOT the stomach flu.

do you vomit while having the influenza.?

also can a healthy immune system help lessen the severity and the duration.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
yes. in children.

In an adult population, nausea can occur, but vomiting is rare.
if you really have vomiting as a prominent symptom, then you likely have viral gastroenteritis, not influenza.

If you have diarrhea , then you really do NOT have influenza.

In children, (ref 1) GI symptoms are much more common.
In a study of 623 children with proven influenza A or B, the most prominent symptoms were

fever 94%
cough 67%
rhinorrhea 66%

vomiting occured in 19%
diarrhea occurred in 9%

In ADULTS, (ref 2) the data is much differnent. In the original study of oseltamivir in 2000, the placebo group of documented inflenza-infected subjects experienced

nausea in only 7% of cases.
vomiting 3%
diarrhea : NONE

It appears you are aware of the misnomer "stomach flu", which in fact does not exist. That term should never be used. "Viral gastroenteritis" should be used instead, because that is correct.

Bottom line : children <17 yrs old might experience nausea and even vomiting with true influenza, but these symptoms are RARE in adults. If you have diarrhea in an adult, it clearly is NOT influenza.Health Question & Answer
