I have to have an Endoscopy?!
Question: I have to have an Endoscopy.?
on Friday 31st Oct.....Do you know if I can be put out for the procedure or just sedated .?Health Question & Answer

I asked to be completely put out but they said it wasnt necessary. I had 2 options, the first was to be completely awake and they just sprayed your throat with something to numb it a bit (I said no to this!)
The second option was to be sedated but obviously you are in there for a bit longer as you have to go into a seperate room to "come round" after.
But more often than not with this sedation your body "chooses" to sleep through it. I remember being injected then feeling all warm and fuzzy then the next thing I know a nurse was saying "wake up!"
I didnt even have a sore throat after or anything. About an hour after once I could walk unaided I was let home.
Trust me - it seems so scary when you hear about an endoscopy - but it wasnt one bit. You'll be fine.Health Question & Answer

It's your choice...I had to have an endoscopy but didn't want to be 'put out'...unfortunately, trying to swallow the camera made me gag and I was eventually given a general anaesthetic. I would recommend the latter. You wake up with it all finished....that's what I would choose next time.Health Question & Answer
