There are several very good medications for treating schizophrenia. Zyprexa works very well, but causes significant weight gain. Seroquel is good, but can make can make you sleepy. Abilify works really well, but it's relatively new and pretty expensive.

One adverse reaction almost all antipsychotic medication can cause is called Tardive Dyskinesia. This is an involuntary movement of muscles. If you've ever seen a person that looks like they can't control their tongue or consistently tighten their jaw, this is a type of tardive dyskinesia.
