Is it normal for my temperature to go up and down if I have strep..or is it something else?!

Question: Is it normal for my temperature to go up and down if I have strep..or is it something else.?
My throat started itching Monday Evening. I went to school Tuesday...and by the time I got home..I felt sick, went to sleep for three hours, then I took some TheraFlu. then went to bed at 9. I had a hard time sleeping that night. When I asked my mom if I could stay home...she took my temperature..and it was 99.8 I took Thera Flu like 2 more times the next day...which helped with my nose..but my throat got worse and worse. My Temperature then went up to 102.8 around 8:30. So we went to the emergency room so I could see what was wrong, but when I got there, it dropped to 100.3. The doctor gave me some Children's Motrin for my fever, and some Amoxicillin pills for my throat. She said I might have strep but she's not going to test me because so many people came in with it. This morning, my temperature was normal (96.8) so I stopped taking the Motrin. My throat was still a little sore. I checked my temp 2 hours ago, because I could feel myself getting warm. and it was 98.8. 20 min ago, it was 99.0. And all I've been doing is sitting all day, and I still feel myself getting warmer right now....

Is it normal for my temperature to change like that if I have strep.? I'm rarely sick...I haven't even gotten a cold in like 2 years....Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yeah. My temperature bounced around a bunch when I had strep too. It mostly wavered in the 100.#s though. It's very normal for your fever to bounce around. A fever is your body's way of 'cooking' the infection while they send defense to get rid of it. However, it affects you too. I had strep throat for about 6 days, and was the fourth positive in a row that day when I went in to get tested. After a bit of time, the medicines should kick in and boot it out of your system.

It's very likely you have strep; you're symptoms sound similar to mine. My throat was very sore/felt like it was burning for most of the time; cough drops, milkshakes, and hot drinks helped a lot.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer
