I found this website with a list of symptoms, basically pain on your right side that persists is a symptom, I think you should go to the doctor either way because if it is Appendicitis andyou wait it could get a lot worse!

Symptoms of acute appendicitis can be classified into two types, typical and atypical. The typical history includes pain starting centrally (periumbilical) before localizing to the right iliac fossa (the lower right side of the abdomen); this is due to the poor localizing (spatial) property of visceral nerves from the mid-gut, followed by the involvement of somatic nerves (parietal peritoneum) as the inflammation progresses. The pain is usually associated with loss of appetite and fever, although the latter isn't a necessary symptom. Nausea or vomiting may occur, and also the feeling of drowsiness and the feeling of general bad health. With the typical type, diagnosis is easier to make, surgery occurs earlier and findings are often less severe.

Atypical symptoms may include pain beginning and staying in the right iliac fossa, diarrhea and a more prolonged, smoldering course. If an inflamed appendix lies in contact with the bladder, there is frequency of micturition. With post-ileal appendix, marked retching may occur. Tenesmus or "downward urge" (the feeling that a bowel movement will relieve discomfort) is also experienced in some cases.

The appendix is a closed-ended, narrow tube up to several inches in length that attaches to the cecum (the first part of the colon) like a worm. (The anatomical name for the appendix, vermiform appendix, means worm-like appendage.) The inner lining of the appendix produces a small amount of mucus that flows through the open center of the appendix and into the cecum. The wall of the appendix contains lymphatic tissue that is part of the immune system for making antibodies. Like the rest of the colon, the wall of the appendix also contains a layer of muscle, but the muscle is poorly developed.

What is appendicitis and what causes appendicitis.?

Appendicitis means inflammation of the appendix. It is thought that appendicitis begins when the opening from the appendix into the cecum becomes blocked. The blockage may be due to a build-up of thick mucus within the appendix or to stool that enters the appendix from the cecum. The mucus or stool hardens, becomes rock-like, and blocks the opening. This rock is called a fecalith (literally, a rock of stool). At other times, the lymphatic tissue in the appendix may swell and block the appendix. After the blockage occurs, bacteria which normally are found within the appendix begin to invade (infect) the wall of the appendix. The body responds to the invasion by mounting an attack on the bacteria, an attack called inflammation. An alternative theory for the cause of appendicitis is an initial rupture of the appendix followed by spread of bacteria outside the appendix.. The cause of such a rupture is unclear, but it may relate to changes that occur in the lymphatic tissue, for example, inflammation, that line the wall of the appendix.)

If the inflammation and infection spread through the wall of the appendix, the appendix can rupture. After rupture, infection can spread throughout the abdomen; however, it usually is confined to a small area surrounding the appendix (forming a peri-appendiceal abscess).

Sometimes, the body is successful in containing ("healing") the appendicitis without surgical treatment if the infection and accompanying inflammation do not spread throughout the abdomen. The inflammation, pain and symptoms may disappear. This is particularly true in elderly patients and when antibiotics are used. The patients then may come to the doctor long after the episode of appendicitis with a lump or a mass in the right lower abdomen that is due to the scarring that occurs during healing. This lump might raise the suspicion of cancer.

I second Moon saying just go already! Never mind the symptoms! I mean, yeah, it's excellent to research it, but it is better to just go and have something done before it has a chance to get so bad, whatever it could be, that too much damage could be done! Just make an appointment! Better to hear it's nothing, then not go and irreversable damage happens. If not for yourself, do it for those who care so much for you!Health Question & Answer

Mine ruptured when I was 8, while I was asleep, when I woke up in the morning, my knees were tucked into my chin so hard my dad couldn't pull them down, they got me to the hospital, the doctors poked me all over and I felt no pain, they went away scratching their heads, and came rushing back when they got the lab results, the next thing I knew,I was being told to count backwards from 10. they told my parents I had maybe a couple of hours left, and it was the worst case they'd ever seen, I had tubes everywhere, and a 106 degree temp. for a week and a half, they kept giving me cognitive tests, to monitor brain damage from the fever, but the tests kept coming back 0.%. Not sure if that meant "brain" or "damage", but it kept me going long enough to experience an intracrainial hemotoma, (brain aneurysm).
Docs gave me less than 33% chance of survival, less than 10% for full recovery, but I tricked them again, ya see I know I'm all screwy up there, but they don't,Health Question & Answer

Did it originate in the belly button area and move then to your lower abdomen. Are you vomiting, is the pain sharp.? Are you sick to your stomach.? Does it hurt when you cough or breathe.?

It's never good to overlook symptoms. If you are constipated DO NOT try to relieve it with laxatives. Is your abdomen swollen.?

Appendicitis is treated through surgery and antibiotics. It's important that you get this checked out. You will feel increased sharp pains if this is what you have as time goes on. The surgery is rather simple (I've seen it done in clinicals) and recovery time is short.

Go get this checked out! I'm insisting you do this!Health Question & Answer

I had appendicitis a few years ago. My symptoms were intense pain in the abdomen - so bad that I couldn't even stand up straight. Sorry to be gross, but I also experienced vomiting and diarrhea. also had a fever of about 101.
When I finally went to the ER, the doctor pressed on my right side. That didn't hurt, but when he let up the pressure, I screamed out loud. (That was embarrassing! lol)
Hope this helped. Good luck to you, and I hope you don't have appendicitis. It's no fun at all.

I had an appendectomy about 12 years ago.. Its not something you want to delay getting checked out. Its usually a constant cramping in the right side around your abdomnen. For me it would hurt when I applied pressure on my right leg. Get it checked out though, because after it bursts like mine did, you dont have that long to get it removed.Health Question & Answer
