Hun it takes at least 6-8 weeks to start seeing an effect from antibiotics. You have to stay on the schedule religiously and if it says take them on an empty stomach make sure you do that, otherwise they will be ineffective.

If after 2-3 months you are not noticing a difference you may need a prescription cream such as Differin to use along with the antibiotics.

Acne is not caused by your diet or having a dirty face it is caused by bacteria in the skin. Age and hormones can have a lot to do with it. The birth control pill can help for a lot of girls too.Health Question & Answer

Aloe Vera drinking gel. This will strengthen your immune system and create a better you internally.

Topically, use an Aloe vera based cream, not one 'with' aloe but one
that is Aloe.

Make sure you are not eating too much sugar and chocolate.

Avoid ANYTHING with aspartame in it. This chemical is terrible for skin, inside and out.

Drink lots of water to flush out your system and all the toxins that have collected.

Health Question & Answer

Your doc may want to try a different antibiotic. If that doesn't work, prescription accutane is another option, but it's kind of a last resort. Additionally, if you take it, you absolutely can not get pregnant while on it, as it causes birth defects. There may be other options. I'd say give the antibiotics you're on another 2-4 weeks, if no improvement, off to the doc you go. Good luck!

Edit: Oh, the guy above me may have hit on something too, if you have bangs, that could be exacerbating your problem too, sorry hun!Health Question & Answer

well, it does get worse at first. but it will get better.
Yetty, my acne stopped healing at a certain point. thus i dumped wha the doctors gave me and started expiriminting with over the counter stuff. guess what, WAAAAAAYYYY BETTTER! i'm not shure if this works with every one, but my skin got used to the mmedianafter a while thus it did not work as well, if i change it up every couple months my acne flies away.
u should give it a tryHealth Question & Answer

do you have bangs that could be a problem. also some people just react worse to the hormones of the sebaceous glands.if you do have bangs cut em or put em back hair oil sleek into the skin and make it worse.Health Question & Answer

Your acne is caused by over-active sebaceous glands(oil). Wash your face with a cleanser that contains salicylic about 2%, salicylic acid is oil soluble which means it will break it down. Unlike like glycolic acid which is only water soluble, this will do nothing for you. Do not over dry your skin out, the way you can tell is if after washing your face, your skin feels very taught and dry, this means your cleanser is too harsh. If you dry your skin out too much this tricks your sebaceous glands into producing more oil, that = more acne. Very important-use an oil-free moisturizer!!! Keep your hands off your face throughout the day, wash your pillow case at least once a week. If you wear a liquid foundation, STOP! Most contain oils, and this also causes acne. Try wearing a loose powder, I used to wear both liquid and powder, it was hard to give up liquid but now I could never wear it again! Make sure you are also taking a supplement that helps to cleanse your liver. When your body cannot properly rid itself of toxins it can come out through the skin. Always keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water. My skin breaks out before I start my period, it could also be hormonal for you, in which case I would suggest taking the pill.Health Question & Answer

i have the same situation like yours...
Acne forms under the skin, which means washing away surface oils does not do much to prevent or cure it. It is a myth that people get acne because they don't wash enough. Gentle washing is important, but too much washing can irritate the whiteheads and blackheads, causing them to be more infected and making more pimples.

Use a mild cleanser such as Cetaphil, or an acne cleanser such as Aveeno acne bar, Neutrogena Acne Wash or Benzoyl Peroxide 5% bar.

Exfoliating, which removes the layer of dead skin cells, is also important for healthy skin. After washing your face with a mild cleanser, exfoliate with face facial scrub one to two times a week. This can help reduce dead skin cells and debris which can clog pores and cause more acne.

o avoid further clogging of your pores, all cosmetics, lotions and sunscreens should be oil-free! To avoid dry skin, use an oil-free lotion such as Complex 15. To avoid sunburn use oil-free products such as Neutrogena or Coppertone Oil-free Sunscreen. And remember to beware of hair products and gels, as they tend to be very oily.

Look for product labels that read "Non-comedogenic", meaning they won't clog pores.

Medications

Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide can be found in many over the counter acne medications. It kills bacteria that worsen acne, unplugging oil ducts, and helping to heal acne pimples.

Use

* Start conservatively, with 5% gel or lotion once a day (such as after you wash your face to go to bed)

* After one week, increase use to twice a day if you are not using another medication.

* If your acne is not better after 4 to 6 weeks, try a 10% solution. It is now available over-the-counter (without a doctor's prescription). Be sure to get the pure form: you may want to ask the pharmacist for the type that used to be available by prescription only.

Retin-A

Retin-A is available with a doctor's prescription only. It acts by opening up blocked oil glands and prevents new pimples.

Use

* Retin-A may cause your skin to become very red and dry, and may cause peeling. Newer medications have milder side effects. You should ask your doctor to switch your medication if you suffer some of these side effects.

* As your doctor will tell you, Retin-A should only be used at night, because it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun and more susceptible to sunburn. Use extra sunscreen and sun protection when outdoors.
* It may take 2 to 3 months to see improvement in your skin. Be patient, follow your doctor's instructions and remember to stick with the program. (Acne may get worse before it gets better.)
* For females - your physician may prescribe birth control pills prior to starting you on Retin-A, as it can be extremely harmful to fetal development in pregnant women.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics are available with a doctor's prescription only. Antibiotics can be very helpful for acne that is swollen and red, or for acne that is not improving with other medications. The antibiotics kill the bacteria which contribute to whiteheads.

Use

* Be sure to follow your doctor's instructions. Take the antibiotic pills with plenty of water.
* Some antibiotics may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun, wear sunscreen when outdoors.

Accutane

Accutane is available with a doctor's prescription only. Accutane is a very powerful pill--it is intended for people with severe scarring, or acne that cannot be controlled by other medications.

Use

* Blood testing is done frequently when taking Accutane, as it can affect blood cell count and levels.
* For females - your physician may require you to prove you are on two forms of birth control prior to prescribing Accutane, as it can be extremely harmful to fetal development in pregnant women.

* Some physicians will not prescribe Accutane.
