What do Doctors usually prescribe for panic disorders?!

Question: What do Doctors usually prescribe for panic disorders.?
I was just wondering if anyone has visited a doctor for a form of panic disorder called agoraphobia, and what the Dr.'s first prescription choice was for you and how it's helped you so far, if it's helped at all. I have developed this and I need to get some answers on some of the medications, that way I can tell the Dr. what kind of medication I'm seeking, if that makes sense.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
what the person above want to tell you is xanax. it is a trade name for alprazolam. it is a benzodiazepine type of drug.

yes, it is true that this type of drug are usually prescribe for agoraphobic patient. it can lead to addiction. for that reason, dr usually will prescribed xanax for a short period of time. maybe less than 2 weeks. and dr also will give you another type of drug, antidepressant that have effect to relieve anxiety simultaneously.

the antidepressant usual name are, prozac, lexapro and zoloft will be prescribed. but it take time to be effective. about 2 weeks and that is why they give you xanax first because it have a very quick effect on you.

my advice is, if possible meet the psychiatrist because they are a specialist in this type of illness and type of drug been prescribed. it not just like you can buy it from pharmacy or dr. because it is dangerous type of drug that need careful supervision under qualified medical professional.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

i have been prescribed tranziene, paxil, effexor, buspar, and xanax 1mg tabs. so far the xanax has been the best for me. i take one in the mourning and can get through the day fine. it will make you super tired at first. and alot of people cant seem to get through that. i was able to and it has helped me out tons. some times i have to take 2 in a day because i have horrible panic attacks, one put me in the hospital. since i have been on alprazolam(generic for xanax) i can stop one right as the symptoms start. i would at least give it a shot. i really hope that you find something and get yourself back on balance. i have lived with this for 6 years and it is the toughest thing to deal with. i wish you the best of luck, and i hope i was able to help.Health Question & Answer

I too have horrible panic-anxiety attacks. Nobody knows what they are like until they experience one! My doctor gave me an antidepressant which DID NOT WORK! He prescribed Adivan .05 mg. This works wonderful! I was taking 1-2 per day, now I take only when needed. It's been at least 2 months since I needed to take anything. One thing that helps me when I go into a panic-anxiety attack is knowing it will only last about 10-15 minutes, deep breathing helps too! Best of luck to you...you can overcome this! If I did-you can too.Health Question & Answer
