My friend has one behind his knee and is in pain.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
A Bakers cyst is fluid collection in the joint. The orthopedic joint specialist I worked for said it is a sign something is changing in the joint a forerunner of a worsening condition. Depends on a lot of factors doctors may treat it or not. Be sure to ask the doctor what is going on and what to expect in the future. Will it go away.? Will it get worse.? What can I do to help it.? Any recommended exercise or stretching to keep knee healthy.? Probably avoiding further trauma to the knee like avoiding any jarring activity or over-activity like jogging, jumping, walking on inclines, limit stairs or steps if possible. Did your friend have a MRI to determine if he also has a torn meniscus.? does his knee lock.? Is the pain also in front inner side of knee.? If so may have a torn meniscus. Most folks over age 50 have had a torn meniscus and had no treatment. If you cannot walk then you don't have much choice but my opinion is conservative treatment is recommended until symptoms interfere with usual daily activities. Avoid a lot of standing or walking though must have moderate activity or a joint gets stiff.Health Question & Answer
