I have the flu and have been running a fever. When can I go back to school? I just do not have time for this?!

Question: I have the flu and have been running a fever. When can I go back to school.? I just do not have time for this.?
The fever is between 101 and later in the day and when I go to bed spikes around 103. And I feel like I've been beaten. Am I still contagious or can I re-suck it up and return to the hell-hole that is college.

I think one of my biggest problems is that I kind of sucked it up and ignored the fever and aches the first day I was sick and now I think I am paying for it dearly.Health Question & Answer

Then make time. How soon you can return to school depends on when you recover. And that depends on the specific flu virus you have and how well you take care of yourself. Flu viruses can last from 3 to 10 days. Once your temp returns to a normal range (97.6 - 99.6) wait 24 hours. If it remains within normal, you're good to go as long as you feel up to it.Health Question & Answer

I can certainly understand not wanting to miss tons of lectures in college, but unfortunately "sucking up" is just not a smart thing to do. Your body needs rest to get over a virus and if you refuse to give in to what your body needs you will just pay for it by being sick longer and have to miss even more lectures.

It really has nothing to do with whether you are contagious or not [though you still are], but taking care of your body so that it will take care of you.

Take the time to heal up. Once your fever breaks return to class. Not only for your sake, but also ones you may expose to whatever you have.Health Question & Answer
