everybody ignores them. My daughter in law was so hurt when she took her youngest to school and no-one spoke. They seemed to shy away from her as if it was catching.Health Question & Answer

with something of that magnitude its hard to know what to say. do you ignore it and maybe seem callous and uncaring or do you talk about it and seem nosy and insensitive.Health Question & Answer

That's not all people. EVERYone includes too many. Perhaps your daughter in law gives off an air of not wanting to talk about it. People who are open and upfront will usually get a lot of conversation. Everyone can't assume that all know about the tumor either. Is it the daughter in law who has it.? We assume that information gets out, but that's not always the case. If she has been friendly with people, and now they aren't speaking to her, it's up to her to open up and talk to them. Is it inoperable.? Is there nothing that can be done.? Health Question & Answer

People do not know how to handle it. My father had leukaemia and passed away some 40 years ago. None of his sisters would come near us and even the local; Methodist church did not want to know and when I married at that church the organist, choir and most of the congregation did not want to come.

Ugh and I hated it. They thought it was catching.

It is people.

Sorry to be blunt.

I'm sorry to hear. The trouble is, people (and children especially) are are at loss for words in such circumstances. Even if they mean to be compassionate, they don't know what to say, the risk of sounding insensitive or nosey being so overwhelming. They may be scared to offend or upset her. They do not mean harm, they just do not know how to communicate sympathy.Health Question & Answer

People are unsure what to say so they opt to say nothing at all, they are not usually trying to be hurtful, they are just ignorant of the caring, loving , sharing things that could be said to make some one feel like they are not alone. I am so very sorry for her and you and your familyl I don't know you but I will put you in my prayersHealth Question & Answer
