If a child at my daughters school has a father with hepatitis?!

Question: If a child at my daughters school has a father with hepatitis.?
I don't know witch form of hep it is but was wondering if there was any danger in contracting it from the child, assuming that the child does not have it, just the father of the child.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Your daughter is absolutely no danger of getting hep from the girl at school. Even the girl herself is not in much danger or contracting the disease. Hepatitis B, is contracted by blood to blood contact and bodily fluids (semen) Hepatitis C is contracted through blood to blood contact. Hep A can be spread by food workers that don't wash their hands. So in answer to your question...please put your mind at ease. Unless your daughter starts sharing needles with this girls father, she is not going to contract the hepatitis. ..And people that have Hep should not be treated like lepers, or like they are all drug addicts. Many people have contracted their disease very innocently. Using personal hygeine items (razors, nail clippers, toothbrushes that may have the persons blood on them ) of an infected person is a possible way to contract hepatitis. I don't think that is going to happen. My husband has had hep c for 40 years and I still don't have it, non of the kids have it. You don't get it from being around the person, shaking hands, sharing the same glass, sleeping in the same bed. A man with hep c cannot pass it to a the child when he makes his wife pregnant. There is absolutely no harm in your child playing with this other child. It not something that is passed from person to person living in the same household. Hep A is called Food workers Hep, sometimes. It can be contracted from them if they have not washed their hands and have been in contacted with feces infected with Hep A, (after they have had a bowel movement) eating partialliy cooked shell fish, and even baby from baby diaper changing tables. Your child is in no danger of getting hepatitis from her friend at school.Health Question & Answer

No, there is absolutely no danger. I guess if it is Hep A, there is a very slight risk that your child could contract it from eating food prepared by the father. But if the child does not have Hep A, there is no way that the child can transmit it.

ETA: The director of the school asked you because your husband works at a jail.?.?.?.? That seems totally inappropriate. If she wants medical information for the safety of her school, she should be contacting a medical professional. She certainly should not be giving out personal information to other parents.
