Question: Does my mom have Diabetes.?
So my mom bought this home kit Diabetes Test, and My Mom's test came out to 98. Is that a good number or does she have Diabetes.
I Doubt she has it since 110 - 140 is usually the numbers that says you have Diabetes.
But my mom told me to ask anyways...

98 is a decent number but one test won't tell the whole story....Your mom needs to check on a regular basis for at least a few weeks:
a. upon wakening and before breakfast
b. Just before all other meals
c. 2 hours after her meals
d. at bedtime
If her meter holds 7-14 and 30 day averages she'll have a pretty good idea of how her blood sugars are, if it doesn't hold the averages then she'll need to keep a log of what times and dates she ate and tested.
If her 30 day average is above 110 she should be tested by her doctor for a more definitive answer as home glucose meters are not an exact science and may not always give accurate readings.Health Question & Answer

But even better is to go to a doctor and ask for an A1C test. This test is quick, easy, and relatively cheap, AND it gives a MUCH better indication.

98's a good number, though, there's a lot of other variables we need to consider (when was it taken, after a meal.? after a fast.? etc.)...though, since we're trying to rule out diabetes, a value of 98 pretty much tells you she probably doesn't have DM (diabetes mellitus). we'd expect a much higher result if she had the disease, even after a fast.Health Question & Answer
Yes, this is a good number, but the only way to know for sure is to have a doctor do some simple blood tests. A finger stick kit is not a good way to diagnose the disease...Health Question & Answer

Yes it is a good number. also, normal blood sugars are between 70 - 120. She could get an A1C blood check to be sure.Health Question & Answer
