Question: How likely is it that a pregnant woman would receive a false positive HIV screening.?
I pregnant with my second child and I've been reading about false positive HIV test in pregnant woman. I have to go have blood work done soon and this has me worried. Anyone have any information.?Health Question & Answer

Yes it is true that there are a fair amount of false positive results in pregnant women. BUT if it is, they will do a second test (which is very common) it's called the Western Blot test. If the Western Blot is negative, you do not have any HIV antibodies in your blood. The Western Blot test if very accurate.

Don't worry yourself. Blood test are a normal thing when you are pregnant. My sister and my cousin both had to go through it.

Plus stressing causes the unborn baby to stress as well. Just relax and know that these test are something that they do routinely. Health Question & Answer

Don't worry about it. I read in a pregnancy mag recently (pregnant also!) of a woman who was diagnosed (wrongly) as positive for HIV. But it is extremely rare that this would happen. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy!Health Question & Answer
