The past week or two, I've been craving fish. Seeing as I'm allergic to fish, could this mean my body might be lacking something.? Should I try taking some kind of supplement.?Health Question & Answer

Your body may be telling you that your omega-3/omega-6 ratios are out of balance. Because of the way that these fats are metabolized, the results could include increased prostate, allergy, and pain issues.

You could also be slightly deficient in iodine, a key nutrient for proper thyroid function that is found in higher levels in fish.

Fish is a good source of high -3/-6 ratios. There are two sources that I would recommend for supplementation. These include organic flax seed oil and raw walnuts (not cooked or roasted as this breaks down the good fats). Flax seed absorption is fairly low, so taking 1 gram per meal for a week would be required before you found relief. The O-3 in raw walnuts if much easier to absorb and is better utilized.

If the issue is iodine, then a single drop of iodine tincture in a glass of milk once a day for a week will correct this. After that, one drop a week will keep you right as rain. If you are iodine deficient, you might notice your thyroid (base of the neck at the front) seem a little larger or more tender than normal. Extreme cases of long-term iodine deficiency result in goiter, when the gland become huge, like a massive tumor. Because my mother grew up in the Outback, without the benefit of iodinized salt, this was the method she used.

You can try to experiment with these two elements to see which one takes away the craving. I would start with iodine because that effect is immediate and will take a day or so to alleviate. That is important information. The Omega-3 fats is a life-long supplementation. I don't know what your diet is, but keeping the right O-3/-6 ratio in your body also includes reducing beef/dairy consumption, eating animals that are grass fed (not grain fed), and eating more O-3 rich foods.

You may also want to consider consumption of colloidal minerals, which also contain many trace elements found in fish.Health Question & Answer

Proteins and omega 3 fatty acids or iodine. If you are craving salty foods it could be iodine which usally is added to table salt, the lack of which can make you be a bit snappy. If it is protein you will also grave meat, eggs etc. Oddly such a craving could mean a craving for the ocean. Health Question & Answer

This could be your body's way of telling you it is lacking protein or Omega-3. If you're allergic to fish, don't eat it, but start taking vitamins and see if that helps with the cravings.Health Question & Answer
