I saw that report and it looks very promising. The key is that "mutated" gene that Europeans gained through the spread of the plague hundreds of years ago. The main things is that the donor needs to have the gene from both parents or it is not likely to work. That is the tough part, and if science somehow can duplicate that gene we could all be in better shape when it comes to fighting deadly infections like HIV.
