My wife just had a mastectomy yesterday and for having an entire breast removed she is doing very well. Her friend had a lumpectomy and did not stay overnight in the hospital. My wife did.

If this is for yourself...you will be dealing with some pain and will need to take medication. My wife is taking one percocet every 4 hours. I imagine you will miss a few weeks of work.

The day of and after surgery you will be doing some light exercises if any lymph nodes will be removed.

I thought she would be in a lot of pain...but she is not. She says she feels the best she has felt in weeks. I think the fear is worse than the actual surgery.Health Question & Answer

Just a biopsy or a lumpectomy.?

If a needle biopsy, recovery is about 15 minutes.

If a lumpectomy it will be dependant on the extent of the surgery, ask your surgeon.

My lumpectomy included lymph node removal, and I was not allowed to return to work until my wound stopped draining. This took 2 weeks, although otherwise I was feeling fine!Health Question & Answer

Your surgeon should be able to answer your questions, but as a biopsy/excision is a relatively minor surgery, you should be able to go back to work the next day, barring any complications.Health Question & Answer
