Why would an old surgery scar suddenly scab over (no trauma)?!
Question: Why would an old surgery scar suddenly scab over (no trauma).?
I had knee surgery back in June, and one of my scope scars is scabbed over - again. I noticed the scar was getting redder and redder the last couple of days & this morning I noticed the scab - but why would it scab over again after 5 months.? And, when this scab falls off, will I have a bigger scar.?
I haven't traumatized it in any way - such as with a razor, I haven't bumped it into anything hard enough to cause a scab. There's no bruise, and it doesn't hurt. And it fills up the entire scar (about 1/2 inch long).
It seems kind of silly to bother my orthopedic surgeon with something so trivial - I was just curious if anyone else had experienced the same thing.Health Question & Answer

when surgeons stitch a wound closed they don't just do the outer layer of skin, but do the inbner layers as well and sometimes, dpending on the surgery, the catgut or stitches work there way to the top before disintergrating and cause a new scab. nothing to worry about, it just happens to some people. it has happened to me. no big deal and no big scar.
