How much spinach do you have to eat to get kidney stones?!


Question: How much spinach do you have to eat to get kidney stones.?
My chemistry teacher told me years ago that due to the oxalate in spinach, you can get kidney stones from eating too much. I can imagine that you'd have to eat a lot of spinach for this to even happen. Am I wrong.?Health Question & Answer

Spinach and rhubarb among others are considered to be High-oxalate foods.

Calcium oxalate and urate stones are the commonest kinds of kidney stones. Before you hang the rap on oxalate I hope your pathologist has properly identified your stone as oxalate and not urate.a 24- hr urine collection is done.


Self-Care / Prevention

Drink lots of fluids. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.

Eat a well-balanced diet. Vary food choices.

Save any stone you pass so your doctor can have it tested.
