Does chemotherapy hurt really really bad? and what does it do?!

Question: Does chemotherapy hurt really really bad.? and what does it do.?
i was diagnosed with acute tlymphoblastic leukemia about 3 days ago. ive gotten over the fact i have cancer, but i start chemo tomorrow. i'm not afraid of the pain, i just want to know on a scale of 1-10, how bad does it hurt.? and also, what does chemo do for you.? like what are they going to do to me and how will it help me.? im sorta confused. i wouldve asked my doctor, but i was kinda still in shock about the whole situation. and if age is a difference in the type of chemo, im 14. just in case. so anything will help, and its greatly appriciated by everyone! thank you!Health Question & Answer

Chemotherapy is a procedure that is done if the cancer is found soon enough. It kills all the cells in your body. The good part is, it kills the cancer cells, and may help you to recover. The bad part is, it kills the cells that we call hair! :0 Which means, you are slowly going to bald. I'm sure this is will be very hard for you, but at least hair grows back! Slowly, though...it will grow back very slowly...
And I'm so sorry that you have been diagnosed wih leukemia, it must be so difficult and heart-breaking, since you are only 14. I hope all goes well. best of luck? =]

btw, chemotherapy hurts! from what i've heard, at least...i don't know how or where, but it does.Health Question & Answer

Chemotherapy is systematic treatment, meaning it goes all throughout your body, its goal is to attack malignant cells, but it also affects normal cells. It can cause great pain, it can make your joints hurt and can make your bones hurt too. It also can make you very very sick and weak, which is extremely common in patients recieving chemotherapy. Each person is different so the sideffects people see with it may be different. It is some nasty stuff, my mom had it and it made her extremely sick. Health Question & Answer

it is painful... it kills all cells including healthy and cancer cellsHealth Question & Answer

The chemo it's self is done mostly in liquid form and they do it by drip into an IV. So it's not going to be that painful; However, the side effects are what will cause pain. I won't lie, there will be days of 10 and then there will be days of 4/5.
My son was diagnosed at the age of 15 with AML Leukemia. I was at the hospital with him day and night. I watched what he went through. And I will say there were days he truly just wanted to go home and be normal, and then there were days he would be so tired and in pain all over. But he remained positive and knew he would beat cancer and live a normal life. He is now 21 and in his 4th year of remission.
I know this is very overwhelming for you right now, but try to stay focused on positive things. And it's your body so tell your family and doctors to be honest with you.
Be honest with your friends too. You will need them right now. On the days that you feel at your lowest, they are whats going to help you get through this, and you will.
I will add you to my prayers, because those help too. Good luck, and were here if you have any more questions.Health Question & Answer
