Question about bells palsy?!

Question: Question about bells palsy.?
So my sister woke me up this morning and had told me that our mom was saying her right half of her face was completely numb..
We convinced her to let us drive her to the Emergency Room and it turns out that she was diagnosed with BELLS PALSY.

From what I understand, it's pretty common..
She was given a few different meds and prescriptions to get more meds..
Anyway, my mom is 45 years old and has never had any kind of serious health conditions. She not the most healthy, but she's never had any serious illnesses or anything.
Half of her face now is numb and she basically can't move it.. she has trouble speaking clearly and her eye keeps watering. She says she's getting bad headaches and ear hurts.. She's worried about how long she might be this way..

So my main question is, Will this go away.? Will her face be back to normal.?.?

Let me know what you know.. thanks.Health Question & Answer

yes, it is a reversable condition. the most important part is to keep her eye moisturized (closed) while she has no control of it. it will take around seven days to return to normal, somtimes more, sometimes less. For the most part, recovery is just from the time for her nerves to recover. I would be in contact with her doctor so they can keep checking her for other condtions. (an eye patch works great when you place a few cotton squares in it and tape it down).Health Question & Answer

I have known two people that had Bells Palsy. They did get over it, and went back to normal. -- However, it took quite some time. About three months if I recall correctly.

Your Mother might try going to a Chiropractor who Specializes in a technique called SOT. They can help the headaches and possible the Palsy as well.

Tell her to call the Chiropractic Association in your area for a practitioner who can do SOT.

Good Luck!

About 60 - 80% of cases go away completely within a few weeks to months. Sometimes the condition results in permanent changes. The disorder is not life threatening.
also the eye on the affected side will not close when she goes to sleep so make sure to tape it shut with paper medical tape. also you should get eye drops to keep the eye sufficiently moisturized. Don't worry it will go away...Health Question & Answer

70-90% of individuals with Bells Palsy improve on their own. Corticosteroids probably facilitates improvement. In general, most people improve to baseline (or with minimal residua in the form of "synkinesis") within the first month. A small percentage of patients who fail to improve by 4 months are often left with significant deficits although this varies by individual. There are some tests that can aid prognostication such as electromyography or electroneurographyHealth Question & Answer

It will probably come and go.
You can't predict that sort of thing - but I have known several people with it, and it comes and goes.
George clooney has it too

BTW - Glad it was nothing serious.Health Question & Answer
