Can dark skinned people become lighter in colder climates?!

Question: Can dark skinned people become lighter in colder climates.?
Okay I don't mean like Micheal Jackson light..But I've noticed that my medium brown skin is looking very pale lately. I'm staying in the south of France, and it is really cold compared to CA. Is it because it's so cold or is it the early stages of the "Micheal Jackson disease".?.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
well you can appear lighter- just like you can tan in warmer climates
i hardly ever tan but a few months away form the sun mines totally gone and im pale again- so maybe its the same for your situation
if you had 'michael jackson' disease- if he himself even has it- you'd have patches of pure white skin
you could tell trust me dont worryHealth Question & Answer

Michael Jackson had a rare skin disease called "Vitiligo". Vitiligo is a relatively common skin disorder, in which white spots or patches appear on the skin. These spots are caused by destruction or weakening of the pigment cells in those areas, resulting in the pigment being destroyed or no longer produced. In most cases, vitiligo is believed to be an autoimmune-related disorder. Although researchers are not exactly sure what causes the autoimmune response, more is being learned every year. In vitiligo, only the color of the skin is affected. The texture and other skin qualities remain normal.

So if your skin is just lighter but there is no white spots or patches then I very much doubt you have the disease! Yes its properly because your in a colder climax and your skin is not exposed to any sunlightHealth Question & Answer

My friend from West Africa gets lighter during the winter because of the lack of sun - not light white, just a paler than normal - just like in summer he gets really dark.
I guess its like Caucasians that get a tan in the summer but are naturally paler in winter when the sun is not around.

I hope that helps :)Health Question & Answer

Ha ha I don't think so, my mum in law is from Barbados, lived there until she was about 20. She's been in the UK for 30 odd years where it's ALOT cooler but she is still the same skin tone.

My hubby has vitiligo, he has patches of paler skin all over his body not white but lighter then his natural tone, if you're noticing patching then it may be vitiligo or there is a skin fungus that can cause it too. If it's a more even fading it could just be the slight tan you have from being in CA is fading in the less sunny climate.Health Question & Answer

Well although you were dark skinned you probably had a little tan from being in the sun also, whereas now it has faded Health Question & Answer

I agree with Gem I am hispanic and i get lighter in the winter time because lack of sun.Health Question & Answer
