Is this allergies? Please answer fast!!!?!

Question: Is this allergies.? Please answer fast!!!.?
I have a runny nose and a sore throat. The sore throat is VERY bad. So bad, I can't swallow, can't talk, and can't cough or yawn. I thought it was strep throat, but I have no fever, no swollen limphnodes, and no spots in my mouth. I have no STD's and was completely fine before hand. I took some Benadril, would this make me feel better.?

P.S. Gargling salt water and drinking honey tea only works for about 5 minutes after I do it, then it goes back to the pain. And it kind of feels better after I sleep, but as before, after 5 minutes, it goes back to pain. I have not been breathing through my mouth all day, and I try to blow my nose instead of moving the phlegm in my mouth. That is very painful.Health Question & Answer

Among the differential for a sore throat of this kind include:

Infection - i know that you aren't having a fever, but that does not completely rule out infection.

Inflammation/Irritation - this can cause the back of your throat to swell up causing pain on any sort of movement.

Allergies - could be allergies, this is a rarer cause of sore throats and is usually associated with urticaria (hives). If it was allergies, the diphenhydramine that you took should have helped. If it is some sort of inflammation, it should get somewhat better with an ibuprofen (advil). I still have my money on some kind of throat infection.

The salt water gargling may be helping to temporarily reduce the swelling in your throat. If you feel that your throat is progressively getting more and more swollen, it should be time to head to the ER if you don't plan to go already.

Sorry not much help, but I would probably need to swab your throat and obviously look inside to make a firm diagnosis.

Sounds like a virus. The benadryl can't hurt, but you might take some tylenol or other anti-inflammatory to help with the pain.Health Question & Answer
