If you have health insurance and a chance of mobility, I would get them checked by a dermatologist just to be safe. Plus she or he will have the strongest medicine for you. Some persons can have allergic reactions on their skin, which can lead to splitting and deep fissures. If any of your skin splits, run to a dermatologist. I'm not sure what you mean by dead skin, but I would go the dermatologist b/c I'm not familiar with dead skin that is dark.

I can't find anything on Google about this; perhaps someone else can formulate a question on Google with an answer (about the darkness issue).

Dermatologists have access to all sorts of great creams that are prescription strength that can clear up dry skin so much faster than any OTC cream.

Until you get to the doctor, please see the links below. The first one is for "dry skin" and the second for ""dry skin" hands." Don't skip the first link, though, b/c it is more comprehensive.

In the meantime, things that those of us who have dealt with this issue have tried and found successful:

Using Aveeno moisturizing cream. For some reason, it stays on longer than the others. I'm so prone to this, I even carry this in the car.

Taking warm showers only. The hotter the water, the more drying to your skin.

Moisturize your hands every time you bath or wash them.

Put vaseline on them and cover them in socks or pillowcases when you sleep.

Wear gloves. Any exposure to the cold strips your hands of their natural oils.

But if your hands are beyond help with the above, and I don't like the sound of that dark skin, I would go to the dermatologist. If you don't like the first dermtalogist; if he or she brushes off the issue; go to another one who takes it seriously.

Godspeed to better health. Pls wear bandaids when in public places so you don't pick up infections if you have splitting on your hands.Health Question & Answer

Hands that are particularly susceptible to dry skin problems are those who live in extremely dry climates or those who live in extremely cold climates. This is because the oils that are found naturally in the skin are regularly absorbed by items that are touched throughout the day. The skin just gets drier as the oils are removed.

Soap - always use moisturizing soap (one and only) to wash your hands and avoid using antibacterial soap, dish soap,detergent,etc..

Hand Lotion - always apply hand lotion every after washing your hands or everytime you feel the dryness..

Health Question & Answer

are you on a low to no fat diet plan.? eat some saturated fats.
are you diabetic.? that causes very dry skin on the hands and feet.

I gave up the AHA no fat diet plan and am eating only saturated fats in my diet. I have not had a dry skin problem since changing away from the American Heart Association, American Diabetic Association, and American Dietetic Association idiotic low or no fat diet plans.

My cholesterol came into compliance and my blood pressure came down on the very old fashioned idea of whole milk, butter, fats on red meats, and no grains, no cereals and no root veggies plan.Health Question & Answer

First, you need to exfoliate the dead skin on your hand. Use a pumice stone or a loofah or something like that. Then try and keep hand lotion on your hands at all times, especially at bed time. I like the Gold Bond hand lotions.Your hands should look great in a few days. Health Question & Answer
