I need a colectomy operation for cancer and am wondering what the chances are of them doing it the week before Christmas , ie, 22/12/08.

Most surgeons will continue to operate on planned surgery such as yours right up to Christmas - where I work we are full steam ahaed until the end of Christmas Eve - then we run emergency surgery only on bank holidays.

They should do it. Surgeons operate 365 days a year. I had my lumpectomy for breast cancer 1 week before Christmas, and developed a complication of the surgery and was seen by her covering physician. Illness and disease never take a holiday.Health Question & Answer
Yes they operate a week before xmas, the human body doesn't stop working or stop needing medical care just at Christmas time. Routine operations aren't booked on xmas day and boxing day.Health Question & Answer
