I need ur opinion about schizophrenics symptoms?!

Question: I need ur opinion about schizophrenics symptoms.?
I did some observation about schizophrenic's symptoms. I asked some people who are never studied psychology but they know something about schizophrenia. I asked them what kind of schizophrenic's symptoms displays.
A lot of people told me that delusions and hallucinations and some told me that social withdrawal and prolonged feelings.

I find out that the delusions and hallucinations are correct that is, properly associated with schizophrenia.
However I find out that the social withdrawal and prolonged feelings are incorrect that they are not associated with schizophrenia.

1) Why do you think some people believe that schizophrenics display the symptoms of social withdrawal and prolonged feelings which are incorrect.?

2) To what disorders do the social withdrawal and prolonged feelings symptoms belong.?

3) What do you think makes the delusions and hallucinations symptoms easy to identify properly as schizophrenic.?

Can you please write as much as you can:)

Answers:
1. The social withdrawal is alot of times due to the social stigma that is placed on mental health. Many people with schizophrenia don't see themselves as having an illness and are therefore reluctant to get treatment or to comply with treatment for it. A lot of times friends and family of those with schizophrenia withdraw from them leaving them with no one. Eventually a lot of them end up homeless as well. I don't think social withdrawal is a symptom of schizophrenia as much as it is a complication of it.

2. I'm not sure what you mean by prolonged feelings but social withdrawal could be attributed to many different mental disorders as many people with mental disorders tend to withdraw from society because society withdraws from them. One particular thing I can think of that causes social withdrawal is agoraphobia which is a fear of open spaces. These people usually end up confined to their own homes.

3. Hallucinations and delusions are specific to schizophrenia. These symptoms are not present in any other mental disorders. There are however different types of disorders that "schizophrenia" encompass including schizo affective disorder, schizotypal, paranoid schizophrenia, etc. I don't believe that people are diagnosed with schizophrenia based solely on the fact that they have these hallucinations. There are also different imaging studies (CT scan, MRI) that show changes in the brain structures of these patients (such as enlarged ventricles) as well as tests to measure neurotransmitter activity. Schizophrenics have abnormal dopamine and serotonin (neurotransmitter) levels.

Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer
