Answers:
Conjunctivitis is also known as pink eye. Literally, conjunctivitis refers to swelling and irritation on the lining of the eye. It can be caused by many different things such as viruses, bacteria, allergy, debris, or injury. Certainly, many forms of pink eye are contagious. Be sure to keep your hands clean - washing with warm water and soap for no less than 15 seconds prior to and again after touching your eye area or face. Placing a warm wash cloth across your closed eyes sometimes bring relief from discomfort. If there is no contraindications, tylenol and or motrin will also relieve discomfort. A benadryl will also bring some relief. Be sure to increase your non-caffeinated, and non alcoholic liquid intake as this yellow and green stuff needs to be flushed from your system. If you have any visual trouble, fever (temperature over 101.0),persistent pain or moderate to severe pain then you really should see a doctor. After all, these are your beautiful eyes we are talking about.Health Question & Answer

you should be seeing an optician or doctor, its highly contagious and can cause all manner of problems. I wouldn't put anything household in my eyes, you will likely need anti biotics and drops that will clear it up.

i had it for three months, and caught it from a work colleague, and as it went on for so long, almost ended up having an operation. Luckily they gave me sufficient anti bacterial drugs that it finally went. You more than likely caught it from your nieceHealth Question & Answer

conjunctivitis can be bacterial, viral, or allergy related. it's just an inflammation of the conjunctiva but can be serious if not treated. some forms of it are very contagious so you may have gotten it from your niece. try to keep your eyes clean. use a different face cloth with each eye. if the crust (green gunky stuff) is hard let a warm face cloth sit over your eyes for a little while to soften it up and then wipe it off. try to avoid rubbing or touching it.Health Question & Answer

You will laugh but a mother's breastmilk is supposed to cure this (and I heard this from a doctor) although I have not tried it myself.Health Question & Answer
