Are British Medics too Conservative?!

Question: Are British Medics too Conservative.?
In reading about Raymond Chandler is Joscelyn Rickard`s autobiogarphy, I discover that the genius who did the SP for Alfred Hitchcock`s `Strangers on a Train` came to Britain for medical treatment for an intensive heart ailment.

Apparently he underwent an exploratory for the heart condition, and yet whilst under anesthetic nothing was done.

Chandler died soon after.

I would find this incredible except that I too was given an angiogram whereupon the consultant discovered blockage in at least one of my three main arteries. Did he clear it.? Did he prescribe drugs.? He took thousands of pounds and did absolutely nothing.

I remain in agony.

Judy Garland died of a heart condition in London, although they try to conceal it and say she was a suicide. We had (have) the same GP.

So with regard to American escapees, is it conservatism or merely nasty-mindedness.?.?.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I am sorry for your experiences. but don't understand why you paid for the angiogram if you are in the UK, and if you are still in agony why not seek a second opinion.?
If you have the same GP as Judy Garland he must be getting on a bit as she died in 1969, cause of death listed as an 'incautious self overdose', she had '4.9mgs' of Seconal in her blood.
She had previously attempted suicide (1950) and battled weight gain, alcohol and drug abuse. She must have been in poor physical as well as mental shape.
As for Chandler, his cause of death is given as 'pulmonary peripheral vascular shock and pre-renal uraemia'. He must have been in pretty poor physical shape as he had often been hospitalised due to alcoholism, as early as 1932 being fired from his job due to his drinking.
I do not think UK doctors are conservative or nasty minded, you will find good and not so good world wide and without actually reading Mr C's medical notes how could anyone know the reason for what was or wasn't done.?Health Question & Answer
