Can I apply for Dental Assistant jobs with my Bachelor's degree by the time I graduate?!
Question: Can I apply for Dental Assistant jobs with my Bachelor's degree by the time I graduate.?
I'm a History/Physics double major and a senior at Tulane, and i was wondering if I could apply for Dental Assisting jobs, but I wasn't sure what the education qualifications for such a job would be.
Could I start working at a dentist's office and then get certification for it later on.? Or would a special degree or certification already be required for such a job.?
My plan was to work as a dental assistant for a few years, then perhaps later on apply to dental school.Health Question & Answer

In most states you don't need a certificate to become a dental assistant. you can go to DANB.org and they'll list what you need there.
And honestly, if you have a Bachelor's becoming a dental assistant is a major step down. Are you maybe thinking about becoming a dental hygienist.? those are two completely different position with drastically different pay. you'll need to go to school to become a hygienist, they require you take specific courses.
DANB stand for Dental Assistant National Board.. they're the ones you would get certified through in need be.Health Question & Answer

Yes, find a dentist who is willing to mentor and train you, and you can later do the certifications to do x-rays and polishing and such....
you will be unlicensed, but can still do some things....and a good start.
Check your State's web page for education and license requirementsHealth Question & Answer

you don't need certification. look at the newspaper and in the job section... mostly there are many dent. assistant jobs listed.. and some dont require u to have any experience and they will train you. but to take x-rays you have to be radiology certified but some doctors pay for that.. its not that hard to get that.. i think just one day or an hour or so class.. i maybe wrong.. but it is not hard at all... just apply for jobs and see what happensHealth Question & Answer
