Do you lose weight or gain weight when you're stressed?!


Question: Do you lose weight or gain weight when you're stressed.?
When you're stressed for long periods of time do you gradually lose weight or gain weight.?

My friend seems to have lost weight because she concentrates on her work and forgets about food but when I'm stressed I eat a lot and if I didn't exercise i'd probably gain weight.

Or does stress affect diet differently to different people.?

it depends on your coping mechanism. Coping mechanisms are ways where a person does something to relieve stress.

Some people divert their attention to eating more food than their usual intake. They find this comforting (either in a conscious or unconscious effort). There are times when I am anxious or worried and I gain weight, I do eat more from the stress and part of it is from the extra acid in my stomach, I eat to help keep it from hurting my stomach. There have been about a half-dozen times in my life that I've lost weight without dieting or extra exercise because my metabolism speeds up from certain kinds of stress. One summer I lost about 40 pounds, no diet and no extra exercise. I was losing weight so fast that I had to get new clothes and sometimes they would be baggy on me by the time I wanted to wear them a couple weeks later.Health Question & Answer

it does affect people differently.

some eat more, some eat less.

some people find focusing on something important relieves stress, so the eat healthier, not neccessarily more or less.

if youre stressed, youre also less likely to resist the things you know you shouldn't eat!

exersize is good for you obviously, that's what keeps stress levels down, so keep that up!

Per my experience, stress does effect ones weight; and it effects others in a different way.

I think not getting enough exercise and eating improperly is the primary problem, but individuals are different and weight gain or loss could be the result of individual health issues, too.Health Question & Answer

Same here, I eat a lot more especially foods like chocolate and without exercise I would probably gain a lot as well. Luckily my weight stays pretty consistant over time.

It depends which kind of stress is affecting you.Your friend is too busy and occupied with work and she doesn't think about food.Some love problems have different influence on people-they start eating like crazy.It's all individual.Health Question & Answer
