You have absolutely no reason to worry. But, If you are, just work out a bit more. You will feel better about yourself and more confident in general. Most people work out for all the wrong reasons. Work out to be healthy! Not to lose weight, but if you do work out it's a win win situation. You will feel better all around, be healthier, and lose some weight. : )Health Question & Answer

You can't go by weight alone. There are so many variables you have to take into account. What is your frame size, are you well-hydrated.? A person can be 5'6", 160, with a lot of muscle and very well-hydrated, and be thinner than someone of the same height and weight, with a lot of body fat, very little muscle, and who is dehydrated. So, it's body composition and overall health that matters, not just weight.

And, please, please, don't go by BMI. BMI usually only looks at your height and weight, and sometimes waist measurement, but it doesn't take anything else into account. Going by BMI, most athletes are overweight or obese, because BMI doesn't measure body fat%, muscle, or hydration. It's completely worthless, in my estimation.

I'm 5'3", and my ideal weight is about 145-150, which many people would say is way overweight. But I have big bones and I'm genetically very muscular, so for me, weighing less is unhealthy; I'd have to really starve myself to weigh much less.

You could get your body fat % tested, I would recommend having it done at a health clinic or hospital, rather than somewhere like a gym. A normal range for an adult woman is 15% - 25%. If you're a teenager, ask your doctor if the range is different.

This book has great, common sense advice, and it's good no matter your stage of life, you can use it for children, teens, adults, and seniors, and pregnant or nursing women can follow it, too. "Lean & Free 2000 Plus" by Dana Thornock. Last time I looked, it was available on amazon.com for under $5.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

BMI (body mass index) for 5'6 and 160 lbs is: 25.8

BMI Categories:

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

This just puts you into the overweight category, but not too much. If you lose 5 to 6 pounds, you will fall into the higher levels of "normal weight".

Health Question & Answer

You're a bit overweight, but not terribly. It'd probably be healthy to lose 15 pounds, but I couldn't say for sure since I don't know the details. Are you really muscular or athletic.? If that's the case, you're fine.
Anyway, if you do try to lose some weight, beware of diets. Just eat healthily and limit junk food. On top of that get 30-60 minutes of exercise 5-7 days a week. Health Question & Answer

When calculating your BMI you are just above normal. But it is honestly how you feel. As long as you are comfortable at that weight, then you do not need to worry.Health Question & Answer
