Will losing a lot of weight (50 lbs) slowly still result in excess skin?!

Question: Will losing a lot of weight (50 lbs) slowly still result in excess skin.?
I know that people who've had gastric bypass surgery and lose weight fast frequently end up with a lot of loose skin that may require plastic surgery to get rid of. What if I lose it slowly using diet and exercise.?Health Question & Answer

I doubt it. I lost 40lbs in 3 months when I had my son (and of course most of the weight was all in one area), and I didn't end up with excess skin. If that didn't cause it, than I wouldn't think that loosing 50lbs of evenly distributed weight over a longer period of time would cause it either.Health Question & Answer

Yes, you can still get loose skin. However, it is usually not anywhere as bad as what you see with gastric bypass patients. How much loose skin you have will depend on your age as well. The older you are, the less elasticity your skin has, hence more loose skin. One way to help counteract the loose skin is through weight training. Not only will this help to fill out some of the empty space that is left, but it will also help with growth hormone production, which is helpful for tightening up the skin. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Probably some, depending on how old you are and how much sun/tanning you get. It's been my experience that it doesn't matter how fast or slow. The fat plumped up the skin, and now it's gone, so there's excess skin that really doesn't shrink well. You may NOTICE it more gradually if you lose slowly, but I wouldn't expect miracles, especially if you're over 30. Sorry.Health Question & Answer

if you lose the weight slowly and steadily you shouldnt have skin trouble, but even losing 50 quickly you problem wouldnt have lots os excess skin, but it depends on where you lose itHealth Question & Answer

Factors like age also come into play. As we get older, we lose the elasticity in our skin. Health Question & Answer

I really dont think so. I lost like 40 lbs in 6 months and I had absolutely no losoe skin.Health Question & Answer
