This is an interesting question. Many people believe you would die in three or four days without food. The truth is that in an emergency situation you could last a lot longer than a week without food. People have lasted 6 to 8 weeks without food, others have died in a lot less time.

It depends on several factors. Your general health is a key factor, and your mindset is another. Where you are located is another.

If you are suffering from one of several ailments, you could die in a matter of hours without food. A diabetic for instance could die in as little as 10 or 12 hours without eating. If they are bad diabetics. Other ailments may cause death in short times as well.

First the water. If you go without water you would die in four days or less. This depends a lot on location. In the desert you would not last as long as you would in a cool climate.

Food contains not only nutrition, it also contains water. You would need to increase your water consumption to compensate for the lack of food.

Now for what will happen to you. The first thing most people notice is the pangs in the stomach that is usually called hunger. Do not worry, this is not really hunger, it is the stomach shrinking, and for most people who overeat, this is shrinking to its normal size. It goes away in a few hours to a couple of days.

Next, you would feel a general weakness probably starting on the second day and it would last until you begin eating again.

That is about all you would feel if you went for only a week without food. You would feel other things if you went longer.

Now about what is happening to your body. It would begin to eat away the food stores in your blood stream and then other parts of the body. Which will include most of your organs. The really bad part of this is that when your body burns only the stores it has in the fat tissue, bones, and organs is an incomplete burning of these stores which would begin to make your body acidic. An acidic body can lead to heart problems that you may never recover from.

In short, fasting for a short time is probably a good thing for most people, but the longer you fast, the more dangerous it could be.

I am not a doctor, but someone who has fasted, and is interested in fasting and have studied it a little.

If you really want to do this consult medical advise first.

I would also suggest a couple of shorter fasts to start with, maybe 3 or 4 days. Then step up to the 7 day.

Hope this helps. Health Question & Answer

Essentially, your body would begin to use up all of its stored nutrients. Nutrients are stored in fat cells, bone marrow, etc., and when you fast for that long, your body starts pulling nutrients from the more important parts of your body (bones, muscle tissue, etc.) because it has no other source. So you'd experience all sorts of fatigue and misery by the end of that week. If you stayed hydrated during that time, though, you would survive. Without water, though, there may be lasting damage.Health Question & Answer

I don't know the specifics, but muscles will get fatigued, brain won't work as well, heart might slow down(don't quote me on that).

As for you mind you would be on cloud nine. Two reasons; first you will probably be happy that you have the will power to not eat for a week(I definitely don't), and you might be having hallucinations.

So too sum up, don't do it.Health Question & Answer

lol You wouldn't fall over and die as someone suggested. I have fasted for longer than a week. (not good don't try it) I lost a menial amount of weight and was dizzy a good part of the 7 days. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary.Health Question & Answer

I think you'd be dying. Tired, and so hungry you wouldn't be able to stop yourself from eating. You would die soon after, I'm not sure how long, but soon.Health Question & Answer

you would get really hungry, you would still need to drink water. one week no food or water and you would kill yourself.Health Question & Answer

It is better to climb mount everest with out oxygen rather than try this stunt..Health Question & Answer
